This AMG will be equiped neither with a V-12 or large turbos but instead it is propelled by four electric motors
wich develops 740 hp and 738 lb-ft of torque. This numbers makes it the most powerfull and also eco-friendly car from AMG.
In comparison, the SLS AMG GT develops “just” 583 hp and 479 lb-ft of torque and the 2013 Mercedes-Benz SL 65 621 hp and 738 lb-ft from a 6.0 liter twin turbo V 12.
We were expecting for some time an electric Gullwing, having already the opportunity to drive the SLS AMG E-Cell prototype, but this “thing” is beyond our imagination. The E-Cell is producing “just” 526 hp and 649 lb-ft. The engineers at AMG are to “blame” for those awesome power figures. They made some tweaks to the powertrain and a new revised baterry pack wich has a max load potential of 600 kw.
They also claim that it will accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in 3.9 s. As a minus, it is electronically limited to 155 mph.
Each wheel is driven by an electric motor wich are placed near them. This saves a lot of unsprung mass. The AMG Torque Dynamics system wich is offered in three modes(Comfort, Sport and Sport plus) monitors and also maximizes traction and performance.
Because the team from Mercedes-Benz AMG High Performance Powertrains provided their F1 expertise, the SLS AMG Electric Drive benefits from KERS hybrid technology and has its high output battery paired with an advanced temperature monitoring system. A full charge is completed in 3 hours because of a 22 kw quick charger.
The production version will feature aluminium body panels and carbon fiber reinforced plastic for its battery monocoque. The same composite will be used for the brakes wich include 15.8 inch disc in front and 14.2 inch at the back. Also, its front suspension system is unique including an independent multilink setup.
Visually is as great any other SLS but as a plus he benefits from an exclusive mate paint from AMG electricbeam magno. Alson at the interior the instrumental panel displays electric power information instead of a normal tachometer.
The SLS AMG Electric Drive will be priced around 416 000 euro with VAT included.
